Sheri on Motherhood
In honour of Mother’s Day, we sat down with Friiskin founder Sheri to talk about motherhood, self-care, and the rituals that have supported her through the years - from clinic life and raising two daughters, to building a brand grounded in thoughtful care.

How has motherhood shaped the way you think about care - both for yourself and others?
Gosh, it's been the biggest shaper of my life and how I show up in the world! I was told years ago (when I'd just had my first child) that children never really listen to what you tell them, but always learn from what you do. That's been a big driver for how I show up — with them always watching. If I wanted my girls to grow up caring for themselves and others, then that's what I needed to reflect. Having kind little humans was the goal, and I do believe they are extremely kind!
What has self-care looked like for you in the different seasons of motherhood?
I've always remained fairly consistent with self-care. I had a dedicated meditation practice even before they came into my life and have managed to carry that along the whole journey. As I've gotten older, I tend to want to show up for myself in a more patient way.
I love reading about self-improvement — I always have a few books on my bedside table and one is always something in the self-help space. Exercise has always been a big part of my life too, though that's the one thing that has changed over the years. As my body and life have gone through different seasons, my choice of movement has as well.
Are there any rituals or practices that have helped you stay connected to yourself over the years?
Meditation and journalling, as well as reiki. I have monthly reiki and healing sessions that support me on my self-healing journey — and support me through the work I love most, which is helping people heal their skin in whatever way that looks like for them.
I also encourage myself to have a healthy relationship with food, so that when I do go through less healthy seasons, I know I can bounce back. Reading, podcasts, and any events that help me grow and learn more about myself are always on the list. Health and wellbeing is something I'm genuinely passionate about — I never get tired of learning more about it.
Have your daughters grown up witnessing your self-care rituals?
Yes, they have. My wish is that they can see how small, consistent practices can bring a little grace into the fast pace of life — a way to come back to yourself. I'd love for them to arrive at the realisation, in their own time, that we have the ability to heal ourselves just by slowing down and looking at life through a lens of acceptance rather than force.
I'm still learning those qualities myself, daily — but as time goes on, I find it much easier to return to a state of balance through meditation, movement, healthy eating, and a positive mindset. More than anything, I hope they approach life proactively rather than reactively, and come to understand that our inner world shapes our outer world. We can't blame circumstances when we haven't taken responsibility for what's happening inside our mind, body, and soul.
What’s a part of your day that feels especially grounding or restorative at this stage of life?
Mornings. I get up an hour before my family so I can spend time in the daylight, sipping a cup of coffee and just sitting in appreciation for my life and everything in it.
You’ve been a skin therapist throughout motherhood. How did caring for clients while raising a family shape your perspective on women, skin, and wellbeing?
After having children myself, I could be so much more compassionate and understanding of women — and how everything they're going through shows up on their faces. I loved being able to understand their journey more deeply, and it helped me hold space for them in a much bigger way.
Was there a deeper reason Friiskin needed to exist in that chapter of your life?
Yes perhaps - I think I genuinely just wanted to be able to be of service more to my clients and myself by giving the skin what it really needed and to help empower its abilities rather than taking away from its natural abilities. And I suppose I developed this when I came to the understanding in my own life - that everything is within us - we have the ability to do almost anything and that our mind and bodies are designed this way. By just gently facilitating and encouraging these abilities we are able to build more resilience and balance in all aspects of our life and our bodies!
Its the whole focus really - creating a business centered around exactly what I wish to portray or mirror to my kids - built on trust, love and respect for everything.
If you could offer one gentle reminder to women in a busy season of life, what would it be?
Check in with yourself — always. It requires very little time but it's an absolute game changer. The day can run away from us and all our feelings can get jumbled into one hot mess that tends to erupt somewhere down the line. When we simply pause and acknowledge what we're feeling, those emotions can move through us rather than accumulating into something we can't really control.
I started placing a journal in every room so that whenever I feel an intense emotion surfacing, I just write it out. Game changer. Sometimes I write so fast it looks like pure scribble — but it is so cathartic, and somehow it allows that emotion to move on past.
Also be kind to yourself - we are just doing the best that we can in that moment!
